1,300 pounds of methamphetamine seized at Texas port of entry – more than ever for the city

US Customs and Border Protection officers in Del Rio, Texas, seized more than 1,300 pounds of methamphetamine smuggled into Texas from Mexico on Labor Day. The drugs represent the largest seizure of methamphetamine in Del Rio port of entry history.

CBP employees working on the Del Rio International Bridge observed a 2016 Kenworth tractor approaching from Mexico carrying a group of diesel fuel tank containers to enter the United States on Labor Day, CBP officials said. Officers directed the driver to a second scanning area, where he was scanned by the K-9 team and the non-disturbing response system.

During the search, law enforcement found 320 parcels containing suspected drugs. Officials said 1,337 pounds tested positive for methamphetamine.

Authorities estimate the value of the drugs at $11.9 million.

“This is the (largest) major methamphetamine seizure in Port history and reflects our officers’ strong commitment to the CBP border security mission and their effective application of technology, training and experience,” said Port. Said. Liliana Flores, Del Rio port of entry Director, said in a written statement:
