A diplomatic source confirmed to the Russian news agency Sputnik that the Turkish authorities have requested clarification from Greece regarding the shooting incident on one of the bulk carriers.

The source explained that on September 10 at 10:27 Moscow time, the Greek side opened fire on a cargo ship sailing about 11 nautical miles from the Turkish island of Bozcaada (Tenedos), and Ankara demanded a serious investigation into the incident.

According to the source, “immediate attempts” were made to protest the incident, which Ankara considers a violation of international law, stressing that “the seriousness of the incident was emphasized and it demanded an immediate investigation and explanation.”

Yesterday, the Greek Coast Guard said it had opened warning fire in a safe direction in pursuit of a “suspicious Comoros-flagged vessel” that entered Greek territorial waters on Saturday.

Although the Greek Coast Guard confirmed that it had informed the Turkish authorities of the incident, it explained that the Mytilene Port Authority patrol boat had asked the captain of Anatolia to stop for inspection after the ship was seen at sea northwest of Lesvos. and the captain refused to comply, followed by a chase during which warning shots were fired.
