It’s not every day that you get to document the rare sight of a sea turtle swallowing a jellyfish in the depths of the Maldives.
As an underwater photographer and diving instructor at a resort in the Maldives, Ismail Saif has many opportunities to capture rare encounters with marine life while taking guests on underwater trips of a lifetime.
The encounter took place on the South Male Atoll near Biado Island, a tropical location surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
According to the official website of Biado Island Resort, Biado Island, which has lush tropical vegetation and is known for having the best coral reefs in the Maldives, is also popular among diving enthusiasts.
Documenting this rare scene was not difficult for the photographer, as the sea turtle was busy eating its meal, while the jellyfish showed no resistance.
However, the only negative thing about this documentary is the scattered pieces of jellyfish that stung the photographer’s skin while the sea turtle was enjoying it.
The video, which Saif was eager to share on his Instagram account, got a lot of views in addition to massive reactions after its release.
Noting that many people are unaware of the fact that jellyfish are a favorite food of sea turtles, Saif added: “I am grateful that this video provided new information to the viewers.”
Of course, there are many unique encounters that Ismail documented on his travels with Maldivian guests, such as his encounter with a sperm whale in the waters off the southern atoll of Male, which is a rare sight in the Maldives. That situation made him feel how small he was, but in a positive way.
