Belgian local media reported: “The US Embassy in Belgium will be moved to Etterbeek in Brussels.”
The US authorities have chosen the former offices of ING Bank for their new location, according to the European magazine Politico.
The current embassy is located in the heart of the city next to a metro station and its location was changed due to attempts to increase security around the embassy; Which led to legal problems after complaints from residents.
The new site will include the US Embassy and Mission to the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Etterbeek Mayor Vincent de Wolfe welcomed the move, saying, “I’m glad that Americans have chosen our beautiful city to live in.”
“Local approval is essential to the success of the plan, given that NATO summits and international summits will cause disruption for the region,” De Wolf explained. “The project is still awaiting approval, but the mayor says he’s considering Come in a good mood.” .
