Former Italian Prime Minister and head of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, said that “the socio-political Five Star Movement opposes new arms shipments to Ukraine,” adding: “Ukrainians don’t need new arms shipments after the fourth batch it sent. “Italy, they (Ukrainian forces) are really good, well armed by the United States and Great Britain.”

In a statement, he stressed: “There is now a need for a partner within the Euro-Atlantic alliance who can prepare through diplomatic efforts for a turning point in the peace talks”, noting that “Italy can play this role.”

Conte explained that “if we want to help Ukraine, it needs serious diplomatic efforts to resolve this conflict peacefully. Otherwise, regardless of the succession of military successes, the number of innocent victims, destroyed cities, the risk of a nuclear accident will increase,” and stressed the need for “dialogue and open discussion.” We need to achieve a transformation of this conflict and determine the geopolitical scenario that we would like have in the coming decades.
