France’s national radio announced yesterday that it will begin broadcasting an “energy map” to viewers showing electricity demand across the country and regions where excessive consumption could lead to blackouts.
“In accordance with an agreement signed with the country’s main power grid operator, French televisions will start showing a real-time map called Ecowatt on their channels,” notes AFP.
In this context, she pointed out that “the French government is concerned about the lack of electricity this winter due to the cessation of gas supplies from Russia, as well as serious problems with the maintenance of nuclear reactors”, noting that “spectators will be asked to reduce their energy consumption or avoid using the network during hours peak.
“You can turn on the washing machine at 10pm instead of 7pm,” Delphine Arnott, head of France TV, told AFP. “The initiative with transmission line operator RTE is part of the government media group’s commitment to combating climate change,” Ernott explained.
