Yesterday, Friday night, Tehran saw more angry demonstrations, a week after protests against the death of a young woman who was arrested by the vice police because of her “indecent dress” and her crackdown resulted in the killing of at least 17 people. AFP news agency reports.

A video posted on social media shows a man in military uniform shooting an as yet unknown number of demonstrators in the Shahr-i-Rey area in the south of the Iranian capital. Other footage showed protesters running in front of the Park Royal Hotel in northern Tehran down a street engulfed in chaos and fires. At least eight shots were heard, the source of which has not been identified.

Activists and the media reported that demonstrators in several Iranian cities clashed with security forces, set fire to police cars and chanted anti-government slogans. Iranian media reported that police had arrested an unspecified number of people, including activist Majid Tawakoli and journalist Nilofar Hamidi, according to their loved ones.

Mahsa Amini, 22, was arrested by the vice police on September 13 and died in hospital three days later. Activists said she was hit on the head, but the Iranian authorities denied this and confirmed that they had launched an investigation into the incident.
