Hackers who demanded several million dollars from the hospital in Corbeil-Essonnes, south of Paris, in August disclosed health data stolen in a cyberattack after the facility refused to pay the ransom.
“I strongly condemn the unspeakable disclosure of hacked data from the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital center,” French Health Minister François Braun wrote on Sunday.
“We will not give in to these criminals. All state services are mobilized, ”he added, quoted by AFP.
The hospital guarantees health coverage to nearly 700,000 inhabitants and the dissemination of health information represents a risk of blackmail or extortion for the people involved.
According to the hospital, information posted by hackers on the “dark web” “appears to be of concern to users, staff and our partners.”
This information includes “some administrative data,” including social security numbers, and “some health data, such as test reports,” the hospital said.
According to Damián Bancal, author of a cybersecurity blog, Zataz.com, who consulted the file that discloses the data, these contain documents such as medical exams, use of universal medical coverage (CMU) and an authorization to enter the psychiatric service.
According to Zataz, the ultimatum given by the ‘hackers’ to the hospital expired on September 23.
The ransom set during the August 21 hack was $10 million, but was later reduced to one or two million, according to undisclosed sources.
