The Kremlin has expressed concern over the gas leak from the Nord Stream pipeline, which has been one of the flashpoints in the escalating energy war between Europe and Moscow since the start of the war in Ukraine.
According to the Kremlin, the failure of the Nord Stream 2 pipelines may be the result of sabotage.
The company responsible for Nord Stream 2 said the pressure in the pipeline, which had some gas stored inside it, although it was not lit, dropped from 105 to 7 bar overnight.
The pipeline, which was intended to double the amount of gas it would carry from St. Petersburg under the Baltic Sea to Germany, had recently been completed and was filled with 300 million cubic meters of gas when Germany decided to shut it down a few days before the war. .
And on Monday evening, pipeline operator Nord Stream 1, which had been operating at reduced capacity since mid-June before shutting down supplies completely in August, reported a drop in pressure on two gas pipelines.
After the start of Moscow’s military operations in neighboring Ukraine on February 24, European countries took the initiative to reduce Russian gas imports.
In response to the European decision, Russia spoke of technical obstacles preventing it from supplying the resources agreed with the Europeans, while the West accused Moscow of using the gas as a “tool for blackmail”.
Tensions between Moscow and the West have led to a significant increase in fuel prices, with Europeans fearing a cold winter due to gas shortages, while some countries have taken real measures to reduce consumption.
