“The statement by Germany and Poland to pay compensation to Kyiv is immoral,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

And she said in a statement to Sputnik radio that “this is all hypocrisy,” and continued: “When it is useful to unite against someone, they unite and demand, even if the matter ends, they will be held accountable, and whoever condemns you , it is obscene and completely immoral that at a joint media event or press conference, Poland or Germany demand some kind of compensation from Russia for any historical period.

Zakharova pointed out that “during the Second World War, Germany damaged the Soviet Union and claimed 25 million lives,” explaining: “Half of the country was burned and destroyed, so how much harm has been done to us in terms of development? As far as it was possible. What if we don’t have to rebuild?”

She added: “The Soviet Union invested a lot of effort and money in the reconstruction of the countries of Eastern Europe, including Germany and Poland.”
