Tehran’s Revolutionary Court on Sunday sentenced a sixth defendant to death for participating in protests against the mandatory wearing of the Islamic headscarf, reported Mizan Online, the Judicial Authority news agency.

The defendant was found guilty of having “pulled out a knife with the intent to kill, spreading terror, creating insecurity in society during the recent riots,” explains Mizan Online. The court ruled that the convicted person was a moharib (“enemy of God” in Persian),” the agency added.

In recent days, five other “disruptives” – according to the classification of the Iranian judicial authorities – have also been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. Defendants can appeal the sentence to the Supreme Court.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been rocked by a wave of protests since the death, on September 16, of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman who was detained by the moral police for violating the strict dress code for women. in the country. .

The authorities denounce “riots” encouraged by the West and have detained thousands of people.
