Russian diplomacy said on Friday that it rejected the doctrine of declaring certain countries “terrorist states,” which it saw as a justification for meddling in internal affairs by “some rogue states.”

“Russia has always upheld and consistently upholds the line of rejection of the doctrine of ‘State terrorism’ periodically used by some unscrupulous states to justify interference in matters that fall within the competence of other states,” said Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg. Siromolotov, in a statement.

Siromolotov condemned the fact that Russia was considered this week as a country promoting terrorism by the European Parliament, which alleged the “deliberate attacks and atrocities committed against the Ukrainian population.”

Four PS MEPs abstained on the European Parliament resolution declaring Russia a “sponsor of terrorism”

For Russian diplomacy, the decision of the European Parliament was a positive response to an ambition of the West, supported by Ukraine, which has been trying to impose it for several years.

The resolution approved in Strasbourg “is part of the political and information campaign carried out by the West against our country and has nothing to do with the real situation of the fight against international terrorism”, said the Russian deputy minister.

“Russia has always shown itself to be a responsible participant in the fight against terrorism”argued Siromolotov.

For the Russian diplomat, “if some countries or if the European Parliament wants to search for the real terrorists, we ask them to take a closer look at what recently happened in the Baltic and Black seas, instead of participating in the parade of resolutions.”

Russia’s deputy foreign minister further alleged that Moscow has repeatedly called on the international community to join forces in this regard, while in the 1990s the West supported terrorists operating in the North Caucasus. , offering them support with weapons and ammunition.

However, Siromolotov rejected the possibility that Russia would evaluate “hostile countries” with the same criteria, declaring them “terrorist states”, since it would be a “pseudosymmetric and legally flawed measure”.

This “would mean that we would be running away from the reins of our opponents, mindlessly copying the terminology being criticized,” he added.
