Described as “historic”, the gesture was interpreted as support for Iranian women, who have demonstrated against the compulsory use of hijab after the death of the young Mahsa Amini, who had been arrested by the moral police for not wearing the veil correctly. The athlete denied, however, the intentionality of her gesture, explaining that she was called suddenly and that she lost the hijabwhich finally fell.
