The Russian foreign minister called for “maximum responsibility” to Israelis and Palestinians to avoid any deterioration of the situation in the region.

The Russian foreign minister asked Israelis and Palestinians on Sunday for “maximum responsibility” to avoid any deterioration of the situation in the region, in telephone conversations with counterparts on both sides of the conflict, according to his ministry.

Sergei Lavrov “appeals to the Israeli and Palestinian partners to show maximum responsibility and refrain from any action that could cause a further deterioration of the situation” of the conflict in that region, said the same source.

In telephone conversations with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad Al-Maliki, “the Russian side stressed that Moscow was seriously concerned about the new wave of violence” in the region, the official said. Ministry.

On Saturday, Russian diplomacy had already called, in a statement, on all parties to exercise “maximum restraint” after the attacks carried out on Friday and the same day in East Jerusalem, after a deadly Israeli military attack on Thursday in the West Bank, followed by rocket fire from Gaza into Israel and retaliatory Israeli airstrikes.

Israeli guards killed a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank today and violence in recent days has raised fears of a further escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Israel has already announced a set of measures against the Palestinians in response to this weekend’s attacks, including revoking benefits for the attackers’ families and deporting them.

“The Security Cabinet has made a series of decisions to combat terrorism and make terrorists and their supporters pay a price for doing so,” the office of conservative Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

Israel announced six measures, including “revoking social security rights and additional benefits for family members of terrorists who support terrorism” and “simplifying and expanding firearms licences” for civilians.

In addition, the statement announces a plan to “legislate the revocation of the Israeli identity documents of the families of terrorists who support terrorism”, an initiative already promoted by the far-right members of the executive and whose discussion is scheduled for this Sunday, at the meeting from the government office.
