Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party presents a new request for impeachment against Lula da Silva

The day before the return of the former Brazilian president, the PL accused Lula of attacking the institutions and promoting ungovernability. It is the seventh request for impeachment in less than three months.

The Brazilian Liberal Party (PL) submitted a request for the impeachment process against Lula da Silva. The action, carried out by a group of 33 deputies from the Lower House of Congress, was announced on Wednesday, one day before the return to the country of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

the application of the impeachment process It is directed by Luiz Philipe Orleans e Bragança, a federal deputy for São Paulo and a member of the Brazilian royal family. The document was formally delivered on Wednesday and is based on a series of “worrying points” that, in the opinion of the deputies, call into question the presidency of Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro and the imperial family: a mutual proximity

The main argument of the action refers to Lula’s recent statements about Sergio Moro. In a recent interview, the head of state confessed that, during the period in which he was detained, he repeated several times that he would only “be fine when he screwed with the [Sérgio] I live”. In addition, the Brazilian president also questioned the legitimacy of the alleged attack against Moro, which he described as a “frame” (staging) by Bolsonaro’s former Justice Minister.

In the opinion of the Liberal deputies, these statements are proof that the current Executive has carried out “attacks on anti-corruption institutions”, driven mainly by desires for personal revenge. In statements to CNN Brazil, the former judge and current senator from Paraná accused Lula da Silva of wanting to “take revenge on the Brazilian population.”

Lula and former judge Moro exchange accusations over plan to assassinate politicians

The document, which has already been delivered to the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies, thus accuses the current Brazilian president of various crimes of responsibility: threat to the authority of the legislative branch, attack on anti-corruption institutions (both justified by the attacks on Moro) , as well as propitiating a climate of economic, financial and social ungovernability by failing to “give cohesion around a national plan in Congress.”

This is the seventh order of the impeachment process against Lula da Silva even before completing three months since his return to the Planalto Palace. Almost all of these requests were motivated by public statements by the Brazilian president.
