Washington Post foreign policy expert David Ignachis reports that US officials are skeptical that Ukrainian forces will be successful in carrying out a counterattack.
According to the Ignaches report, US officials believe that Ukrainian forces lack sufficient training and ammunition to make significant progress in the planned offensive.
According to classified documents previously leaked on social networks, the expert said in his report about two months ago, US intelligence said that the situation in Ukraine “may be moving towards a stalemate”.
Ignaches said he met with some US officials on April 13 to see if the US side has changed its mind. According to him, during this period “the main picture has changed a little.”
The expert also says that the Russian side “took control of 70-80%” of the territory of the city of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut), “but the Ukrainians avoided a symbolic defeat by paying a huge price. ”
The city of Artyomovsk is located to the north of the large city of Gorlovka and is considered an important transport hub for supplying the group of Ukrainian forces in Donbass, and intense fighting has been going on for the control of the city since last summer .
