Rita Lee, the queen of Brazilian rock, dies

She became known for being part of the psychedelic rock band Os Mutantes, in the 1960s. In the early 1970s, she founded Tutti Frutti and released some of their biggest hits. She left the stage in 2012.

Rita Lee, the irreverent queen of Brazilian rock, died this Tuesday at the age of 75. Confirmation of the news was published on the singer-songwriter’s official Instagram.

Lee was hospitalized for several days at the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, the same institution where Pelé died last December. The day after the hospitalization, the artist’s husband, Roberto de Carvalho, wrote on social networks that Rita Lee was “fine” and recovering, without giving any specific reason for entering the hospital.
