Erdogan accuses Biden of ordering his defeat in Sunday’s elections

At one of his last rallies before Sunday’s legislative and presidential elections (which polls say could end Turkey’s two decades in power), Erdogan blames the United States.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused his US counterpart Joe Biden on Saturday of “giving orders” to defeat him in Sunday’s elections and the opposition of siding with Western interests and attacking Russia.

“Biden gave the order to defeat Erdogan, I know that. All my people know this,” Erdogan declared at one of his last rallies ahead of Sunday’s legislative and presidential elections, which polls show will end his two decades in power in Turkey.

“The ballots will give tomorrow [domingo] a response to Biden,” he added.

The Turkish head of state also accused his main opponent in the presidential elections, the Social Democrat Kemal Kilicdaroglu, of attacking Russia, the country’s economic and political ally.

Although the opposition leader has assured that he will maintain those ties with Russia if he is elected president, Erdogan accused him today of preparing sanctions against Moscow.

“Are you going to do this with the instructions you received from the United States?” asked the Islamist leader, in a meeting with supporters in Istanbul.

Erdogan also accused the opposition bloc, which also includes nationalists and Islamists, of having been infiltrated by the LGBT (Lesbian, ‘Gay’, Bisexual and Transgender) community.

“We believe in the sanctity of the family. If the family is weak, the nation will be weak,” she maintained.

Türkiye will hold the most decisive presidential and parliamentary elections in 20 years on Sunday.

Polls credit Kiliçdaroglu with victory in the presidential election, although he may not win the absolute majority that would prevent a runoff in two weeks’ time.

In the legislatures it is expected that neither the Erdogan bloc nor the opposition alliance will achieve a majority, so the role of the pro-Kurdish leftist HDP party, which the current government has put on the brink of outlawing, will be decisive.
