Drought: the Minister of Agriculture asks Brussels to use funds from the Common Agricultural Policy

The Portuguese territory is in a situation of 40% drought and the Minister of Agriculture, together with Spain, France and Italy, will inform Brussels to discuss measures to mitigate the effects.

The Minister of Agriculture, Maria do Céu Antunes, will ask the European Commission on Tuesday to authorize the use of funds from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to help farmers affected by the drought.

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Agriculture of the European Union (EU), Maria do Céu Antunes will inform Brussels about the situation of the drought and discuss the best way to mitigate the effects of it, specifically in southern Europe, in an initiative that has the support of the delegations of Spain, France and Italy.

The order recognizing the drought situation in 40% of the national territorythat allows the activation of support measures for agriculture, was signed on May 8.
