The 57 PSP professionals stationed at the Lisbon Airport police station work in a container “without conditions”, denounced this Friday the Union Association of Police Professionals, which spoke out against the situation and for adequate salaries for the role.
After a press conference to show the failures in the Portuguese airports, the lack of working conditions, the ineffectiveness at a time when summer tourism is growing and the World Youth Day is at the gates, the leaders of the Trade Union Association of Police Professionals (ASPP /PSP) invited journalists to visit the container.
“We already had political and PSP officials in placeto know the conditions, but nothing has really progressed and we have 57 people in a containerwithout any safety or health condition and that at least allows the PSP to have decent professionals”, said the president of the ASPP/PSP, adding that that “provisional structure” is more than 12 years old.
“The question that arises is whether this, which is a police station, intervention and criminal investigation, corresponds to what is constantly announced by the Minister of Internal Administration (MAI), José Luis Carneiro, as investments of 607 million for the infrastructure plan and equipment”, emphasized Paulo Santos.
The union leader explained that the container, with about 40 square meters and unsanitary sanitary facilitiesIt does not provide security to the professionals who work there, not even space to store work equipment, such as shields or helmets, among others, and much less personal belongings.
“It was important for the minister to respond to this reality. We don’t know what provisional means in the police because it has been like that in recent years”, reinforced Paulo Santos, adding that the matter was already presented to the former MAI, Eduardo Cabrita, and that it was never resolved.
The union leader affirmed that this situation, which has been taking place for more than 12 years, “does not seem to be a passing issue” and that it only “It shows what a constant communicational rhetoric on the part of the Government iswhich in no way corresponds to the day-to-day reality of PSP professionals”.
In front of the container and next to a makeshift parking lot, there is a tent, with utensils and a table and chairs that, according to the ASPP/PSP leaders, is “the cafeteria” for the agents who work for the Lisbon Airport police. station, which was born during the covid-19 pandemic and stayed there.
