Operations were temporarily suspended in Syria after an airstrike on the Israeli-recognized Aleppo airport caused material damage, although the extent is unknown.
Syrian authorities said Monday that operations at Aleppo’s international airport were temporarily suspended following a bombing attack blamed on Israel, with no casualties reported so far.
The Syrian Defense Ministry said the attack took place around 04:30 a.m. (02:30 a.m. Lisbon time), in what it described as an “act of air assault of the western Mediterranean of Latakia”.
The military spokesman, quoted by the Ministry, explained that the attack caused “material damage” to the airport, where “operations were suspended”, without commenting on the magnitude of the damage to the facilities.
Israel recognize generically the attacks in Syria, arguing that actions are being taken to prevent the establishment of Iranian bases in the country and the supply of weapons to Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite fundamentalist movement, by the Iranian authorities, which support Damascus in the context of the war that started in 2011.
