Two Democrats in the US Congress (considered “key”) gave the green light to the sale of an arms package to Israel, which includes 50 F-15 fighters, the newspaper writes Washington Postciting three anonymous sources.
Congressman Gregory Meeks and Senator Ben Cardin signed the agreement, after months of intense pressure from the Biden administration. According to the American newspaper, the two Democrats delayed the sale for months.
Meeks said Washington Post who has been in close contact with the White House and urged the Biden administration to pressure Israel on humanitarian efforts and the protection of civilians. The congressman also guarantees that the F-15s will not be delivered to Tel Aviv for a few years.
