Portuguese HFA produces advanced fiber optic technology for North America

The Portuguese HFA, from Águeda, “is producing a component to increase the Internet speed of American homes and businesses,” within the framework of a five million euro investment financed through the PRR, it was announced this Wednesday.

Through an investment of around five million euros, financed through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) in the field of the Microelectronics Agenda, HFA – Henrique, Fernando & Alves SA, an electronics specialist, acquired, “in recent years months, highly specialized production equipment in the field of microelectronics and is producing a component to boost the speed of the Internet for American homes and businesses”, reads the statement.

This is the XFP-SFP, a component in the field of optical fiber “that is placed in routers homes and businesses, multiplying broadband bandwidth by five and thus increasing Internet speed.”

In this way, “using part of the PRR investment, obtained through the Microelectronic Agenda, HFA produces, from Águeda, this technology”, and the destination of the product “developed by PICadvanced SA, another partner of the Agenda, is the “The American multinational telecommunications company Verizon.”

The purchase of new equipment that allowed the Portuguese company to produce highly sophisticated components “It is not the only result of PRR’s investment”, since the company, which will turn 30 years old in 2025, “is modernizing, with new processes, methodologies and a new pavilion, which should be completed by the middle of next year” . .

“The support of Agenda Microeletronica is essential so that we can increase our capacity to work on new products and provide, for example, assembly and testing services for electronic boards,” says Carlos Alves, administrator of HFA, quoted in a statement.

The Portuguese technology company “will participate in June in a prospecting visit, within the framework of the consortium, to the German SMTConnect fair, in Nuremberg, and will participate in the MiNaPAD Forum, in Grenoble (France).”
