Biden should not run again, according to 72% of Americans

A barometer conducted after the debate between Biden and Trump reveals that 72% of Americans believe that the current president should not run for office.

Seventy-two percent of registered voters in the United States say that US President Joe Biden should not run for a second term, according to a poll conducted by CBS News and YouGov following the debate with Donald Trump.

This result represents an increase of nine percentage points compared to the same question asked in February.

Biden, 81, saw his candidacy as the Democratic candidate for the November elections weakened after the debate against former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), in which he appeared physically clumsy and, at times, hesitant, incoherent and with inconclusive sentences.

After a disastrous face-to-face with Trump, Biden admits: “I’m not a young man. I don’t debate as well as I used to.”

Still, Joe Biden said the day after Thursday’s debate with Trump that he had no intention of dropping out of the race for a second term.

United States. After a disastrous debate that left Democrats in a panic, can Biden hold on?

Eighty-six percent of those surveyed consider that Biden’s age is a fundamental reason for not running for office and 72% affirm that Biden does not have the mental and cognitive health to be President, seven points more than at the beginning of June. .

Asked more directly whether Biden should step aside to give another Democrat a chance to run, 64% of voters said yes.

The poll, conducted June 28-29 among 1,134 registered voters and with a margin of error of about 4.2 percentage points, also shows voters’ concern about Trump, 78.

Regarding the Republican candidate, the poll indicates that 49% of voters believe he does not have the mental and cognitive health to serve as president and 54% say he should not run.

After this week’s face-to-face meeting, the US media and polls pointed to Trump as the winner of the debate between the two candidates.

Major US newspapers are calling for Biden to drop out of the race. What will it take to make this happen?

A poll by CNN, the broadcaster behind the first presidential debate in November, indicated Thursday that registered voters who watched the meeting “think Trump has outperformed Biden.”

“Most say they have no real confidence in Biden’s ability to lead the country. At the same time, most who watched the debate say it had little or no effect on their choice for president,” the channel said.

In 2020, when both candidates were fighting for the Oval Office, the same poll noted that the public felt Biden outperformed Trump in their two presidential debates.

However, a YouGov poll conducted yesterday indicated that Trump won the debate by a two-to-one margin. Forty-three percent of respondents thought Trump won the debate, compared to 22% who said Biden did. The remaining 35% said they were not sure.
