Israeli army launches operation in Nur Shams, West Bank

The Israeli bombings targeted members of the Tulkarem Brigade, based in the region. This is the largest wave of violence and clashes since the Second Intifada.

The Israeli Army launched an operation on Monday in the Tulkarem area, northwest of the West Bank, after bombing the Nur Shams refugee camp on Sunday and killing an Islamic Jihad leader.

“Israeli occupation forces stormed the town of Tulkarem at dawn today,” the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

In the city, which is a refuge for dozens of members of the Tulkarem Brigade linked to the armed groups Fatah and Islamic Jihad, clashes broke out on Monday between members of the militia and Israeli soldiers.

An Israeli attack took place in the same area on Sunday, killing one person and injuring five, two of whom were seriously injured.

Military vehicles and bulldozers were later seen crossing the central roads of Al Alami, Al Sikka and Nablus towards the Nur Shams refugee camp, according to Wafa news agency.

The clashes followed an Israeli attack on Sunday on a house in Nur Shams, in which Saed Izzat Jaber, 24, “one of the founders and most prominent leaders” of the Tulkarem Brigade, was killed, Islamic Jihad said.

A drone was used in the attack against the home of the local leader of Islamic Jihad.
