‘Gunshot wound to right ear’: Trump’s doctor demands Congress correct FBI director’s statements

Ronny Jackson has demanded that Congress correct the minutes of the FBI director’s hearing in which he suggested that Trump’s injury could have been caused by shrapnel. “There is no evidence,” says the doctor.

Former White House physician Ronny Jackson on Friday released an update on Donald Trump’s health following the July 13 attack. The current Republican congressman, who has been following the former president’s case, criticized the FBI director for stating that Trump’s wound could have been caused by a bullet or shrapnel.

“During the congressional hearing, FBI Director Christopher Wray suggested it could have been a bullet, shrapnel or glass. There is absolutely no evidence that it was anything other than a bullet. “Congress must correct the record, as the hospital and I have confirmed. Director Wray is wrong and it is inappropriate to suggest otherwise,” Ronny Jackson wrote in a letter posted on the social media site Truth Social, founded by Trump.

On Wednesday, Christopher Wray was questioned by lawmakers about the trajectory of the eight bullets fired by Thomas Crooks in the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. The FBI director responded that the agency’s investigation had not yet uncovered all the details. “There is some question as to whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that hit the ear,” he said.

Bullet or shrapnel? FBI director says they haven’t yet determined how Trump was injured

In response, Jackson reaffirms that there is no doubt that Trump suffered a gunshot wound. Citing the Republican candidate’s medical records, when he was admitted to Butler Memorial Hospital, the doctor states that he was “evaluated and treated for a gunshot wound to the right ear” by the “doctors and nurses of the Hospital.”

Following criticism from the American public over Donald Trump’s lack of information regarding the treatment he received after the attack, Ronny Jackson had already published a first update on Trump’s state of health last Saturday.

In this first writing, the former doctor detailed the wounds: “the bullet passed less than a quarter of a centimeter [pouco mais de meio centímetro] from his head and hit the top of his right ear. The trajectory of the bullet left a two-centimeter wound on the cartilaginous surface of the ear.”

Ronny Jackson further explained that due to the “highly vascular nature of the ear,” the healing wound may still bleed at times, so Donald Trump will continue to wear a bandage over his right ear.

However, The credibility of Jackson’s medical statements has been questioned.due to his political and personal closeness to the Republican candidate, whom he has publicly supported. The now congressman, who worked as the president’s doctor between 2013 and 2018 —during the Obama and Trump administrations— rejected the questions about his resume, in the letter this Friday.

“I served as an emergency physician for over 20 years in the United States Navy, including as a battlefield combat medic in Iraq and I have treated many gunshot wounds in my career.“He explained, adding that his “observations of the wound, medical history and significant experience in the evaluation and treatment of patients with similar injuries” led him to agree with the initial assessment of the professionals at Butler Hospital.

Ronny Jackson also assured that he will continue to provide care to the presidential candidate, when he and his personal physician deem it relevant. “I will provide updates as needed and with President Trump’s permission,” he promised.
