The Treasury allows VAT payment until July 25 without penalty

The government will accept without penalty the VAT and the IRS and IRC withholdings that were submitted before July 25, three days after the deadline, due to “disturbances” in the system.

According to an order signed by the Secretary of State for the Treasury, this involves the submission of periodic declarations for the month of May 2024; the submission of summary declarations for the second quarter of 2024 and for the month of June 2024 and the delivery of IRS and IRC withholdings made when paying or making available income for the month of June 2024.

As Cláudia Reis Duarte explains, “in the last two days before the deadline,” which was July 22, there were “periods of disruption in the service levels in the systems for sending the aforementioned declarations.”

Due to these breaches, the Government determined that if these obligations have been fulfilled before July 25, 2024, they will not “give rise to increases or sanctions.”
