OE2025: The PSD defends that “Portugal wins” with “total viability” on the part of the PS

The parliamentary leader of the PSD considered this Thursday that the proposal of the general secretary of the PS to make the State Budget for 2025 viable, in general and in the final global vote, “is responsible” and represents a victory for Portugal.

“Pedro Nuno Santos’ decision to fully enable the State Budget for 2025 is responsible and reveals that the national interest prevailed.“Wrote Hugo Soares, in a publication in social network.

The parliamentary leader and general secretary of the PSD defended that the Government’s budget proposal for 2025 It is good “for young people, for workers, for retirees and for companies.”

“One certainty: Portugal wins,” he added.

The leader of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, announced this Thursday that he will propose to the National Political Commission that the party abstain from voting on the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025), either in the general vote or in the final global vote.

HE The general secretary of the PS justified this decision with two reasons: the fact that only seven months have passed since the last legislative elections (also early) and that a possible advantage will take the country to the third legislative elections in less than three years.

The National Political Commission will deliberate on Monday on this proposal by Pedro Nuno Santos regarding the OE2025 vote.

In Brussels, at the end of the European Council, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro “democratically” welcomed the PS leader’s announcement, highlighting the “sense of responsibility” of the main opposition party.

“What I can say, from a democratic point of view, is to welcome the sense of responsibility and prevalence of national interest that the PS expresses to make this important instrument viable that can contribute to the execution of the Government program,” he stated.

Luís Montenegro highlighted the “very significant effort to address the essential concerns of the PS”, given the “humility” of the Government in recognizing that it does not have an absolute majority.

“I see the decision of the PS with hope, respecting the will of the people and not contributing to adding uncertainty”he added, saying he did not foresee “major problems” in the specialty phase of the budget discussion.

The vote on OE2025 in general is scheduled for the 31st. With approval guaranteed by the abstention of the PS, the specialty phase will take place in parliament between November 22 and 29, the date on which the document will have the final global vote.
