OE2025. Livre hopes that the viability of the PS does not mean a “blank check” for the Government

Livre said this Thursday that he hopes that the viability of the PS of the State Budget proposal for 2025 (OE2025) does not mean “a blank check” for the Government and wants the document to be improved in this area.

“The general secretary of the PS announced that he will propose abstention. What we understand and hope is that this announcement is not a blank check to the Government.that it is not a blank check for the PSD and the CDS and that there is the possibility of, in a specialized process, advancing and improving the state budget as it is,” considered Livre deputy Paulo Muacho.

The parliamentarian was speaking to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic moments after the general secretary of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, announced that he will propose to the National Political Commission that the party abstain from voting on the OE2025, either in general or in the final global vote.

Paulo Muacho stated that “it is a fact that the country recently had elections, and it is a fact that there is no prospect that if there were new elections the political situation would change significantly” and said he respected the position of the PS.

Asked if it is positive that legislative elections are not called again, Paulo Muacho responded that “it depends on what can be changed and improved” in the State Budget in the specialty phase.

“If it is simply a matter of signing a blank check to the PSD and CDS government, it will probably not be a positive position. If there is a possibility of improving some of the things that the Government wants to do that are negative for the country, then there could be an improvement compared to what we have at the moment,” he highlighted.

Livre will announce “in due course” the general direction of the vote, which will take place on October 31.

The deputy recalled some of the proposals that the party will present as part of the specialty discussion, such as the creation or study of a social heritage“to allow any young person who has income to start their studies or set up a small business” or the expansion of the ‘3 C’ program – Home, Comfort and Climate, a measure to combat energy poverty that has been a flagship of the party.

At a press conference at the party headquarters, the general secretary of the PS began by arguing that “the normal thing” is for “the main opposition party to vote against the General State Budget proposal that the Government presents to parliament.” remembering that this is exactly how it is. what the PSD did in the last eight years with the socialist executives.

The leader of the PS stressed, however, that there are two aspects that cannot be ignored, the first of which “only seven months have passed since the last legislative elections” and “a possible loss of the budget could lead the country and the Portuguese to the Third legislative elections in less than three years, with no prospect of a stable majority resulting from them.”
