The annual address by the head of state, who will not run for office again in the next elections because he has reached the constitutional limit of two terms, will be held in a solemn plenary session.
The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, presents this Wednesday, for the last time, in the Assembly of the Republic, the annual information on the General Situation of the Nation, as the general elections in October and has already served two terms.
The annual information of the chef of State, who is not recandidate for office in the elections of October 9 due to the constitutional limit of two terms, will take place in the sole plenary session, in parliament, in Maputo, starting at 10:00 a.m. local time (9:00 a.m. in Lisbon).
Filipe Nyusi’s communication to Parliament is framed within the provisions of section b) of article 159 of the Constitution of the Republic, according to which “It is the responsibility of the Head of State, in the exercise of his duties, to report annually to the Assembly of the Republic on the general situation of the nation.“, recalls a note from the Presidency.
The Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique began this Monday the last week of work of the ninth legislature, with the conclusion of the tenth ordinary session.
According to the agenda, the highlight at the end of the ordinary session will be the annual report by the head of state.
Thursday will be dedicated to closing speeches by the presidents of the three parliamentary factions, which will mark the end of the ninth legislative term, which began in January 2020.
The Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo, the ruling party) has a qualified majority of 184 of the 250 seats, followed by the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo, the main opposition party), with 60 deputies, and finally the Mozambican Democratic Movement (MDM, the third party), with only six seats.
The general elections on October 9 include presidential, legislative, provincial governor and provincial assembly elections.
