The Islamic group Hamas on Tuesday called for “intensified resistance” against the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, after five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on Monday night.

The Israeli military announced on Monday that it had carried out an airstrike on the Nour Chams Palestinian refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank, where the Palestinian Authority reported five dead following the attack.

“The blood shed will not be in vain. It will be an incentive to intensify the resistance and continue our heroic operations,” Hamas said in a statement.

Hamas reiterated that such Israeli military incursions, which have become more frequent and lethal in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza last October, “will not stem the wave of resistance.”

“He will burn the earth beneath the feet of his soldiers and settlers”he added.

According to the military correspondent of the Times of Israel and the Palestinian agency Wafa, The attack was carried out with a buzzunmanned aircraft.

Since the beginning of the year, the Nour Chams camp has been the scene of deadly fighting between the Israeli army and members of several Palestinian armed groups.

In April, 14 Palestinians were killed in 48 hours during an Israeli ground military offensive.

Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, triggered by the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli soil on October 7, violence has increased in the West Bank, particularly in the north of this territory occupied by Israel since 1967, where armed groups fighting against Israel are particularly active.

At least 646 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army or settlers, according to an AFP tally based on official Palestinian data, and at least 18 Israelis, including soldiers, in Palestinian attacks or during army operations in the Palestinian autonomous zone, according to official Israeli data.
