The Vatican recognises Marian devotion at a shrine in southern Bosnia-Herzegovina

The Catholic Church has recognized the shrine for its “abundant spiritual fruits.” However, it has not yet validated the alleged apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1981, which made it a place of pilgrimage.

The Vatican on Thursday officially recognised the shrine of Medjugorje in southern Bosnia-Herzegovina as a place of worship.

According to the new rules approved this year by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, The authorization was given on Thursday due to the “abundant spiritual fruits”but without clarifying a position on the reports of alleged apparitions in Medjugorje.

In 2019, Pope Francis had accepted the organization of pilgrimages to Medjugorje, although he had not validated the apparitions.

Medjugorje, with 2,300 inhabitants, became a popular pilgrimage site after six young people claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary in 1981.
