The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) registered 38 cases of electoral fraud during Wednesday’s general elections in the country, with 37 people arrested, the police force announced this Tuesday.
According to an official source from the PRM general command, during the entire electoral campaign period, which ran from August 24 to October 6, 60 electoral crimes were recorded, with the arrest of 39 people.
He adds that the voting process, on October 9 and three days later in two districts of the province of Zambézia, in central Mozambique, “took place in an environment of public order and security.”
“Still, 38 cases of electoral fraud were registered and criminal offenses, and in relation to the same 37 people were arrested. In total, 87 documents were prepared and sent to the Public Ministry for the respective subsequent legal procedures,” indicated the PRM.

The publication of the results of the presidential elections by the National Electoral Commission, if there is no second round, takes up to 15 days. before proceeding to validation by the Constitutional Council, which does not have deadlines to proclaim the official results after analyzing possible appeals.
The vote included legislative votes (250 deputies) and for provincial assemblies and respective provincial governors, in this case with 794 mandates to be distributed.
The CNE approved lists of 35 political parties that run for the Assembly of the Republic and 14 political parties and citizen groups that vote for the provincial assemblies.
