American musician and actor Jared Leto, singer of the group Thirty Seconds to Mars, is being criticized by the Ukrainian government for having expressed his desire to “party” in Russia after the war and for having praised “Russian energy” in a concert kyiv accuses Leto of wanting to please Moscow.

The controversial remarks were made last week during a concert in Belgrade, Serbia. According to The Telegraph, Jared Leto addressed the audience on the show saying he felt “Russian energy” and asked viewers: “How many of you are originally from Russia?”

“We miss you guys. You know it,” Jared Leto shouted. “I tell you that one day, when all these problems are over, we will visit you in your homeland. Let’s go back to Serbia, let’s go to St. Petersburg, let’s go to Moscow, let’s go down to kyiv, let’s celebrate and be with everyone in the right way.”

Jared Leto’s words were very poorly received in kyiv and even led the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a statement harshly criticizing the American actor.

“Jared Leto’s ‘sense of Russian energy’ and his desire to operate in Russia is an insult to those who are sacrificing their lives to defend freedom”; the statement says. “There can be no appeasement for Russia as long as it continues to try to solve the ‘problem’ of Ukraine’s very existence.”

In the past, as The Telegraph recalls, Jared Leto made several statements in favor of Ukraine in the context of the conflict with Russia.
