Madeira with regular and weekly air connection to the capital of Iceland

The direct connection with Reykjavik has 35 scheduled frequencies and a total of 6,300 seats. The region continues to invest in the Scandinavian and northern European markets, which it considers a priority.

Since this Tuesday, the Madeira-Cristiano Ronaldo international airport has a direct weekly connection with Reykjavík, capital of Iceland, with 35 scheduled frequencies and a total of 6,300 seats, announced the Madeiran government.

The connection is carried out by the low-cost company Play Airlines and the inaugural flight landed this Tuesday in Madeira with 180 passengers, which represented a full capacity, whose debut was marked by the presence of the regional secretary of Economy, Tourism and Culture. Eduardo Jesús, indicates the note released by the Madeiran executive.

The regular operation is carried out with a weekly flight that takes place on Tuesdays, using Airbus A320 aircraft and the first flight originates and ends in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik.

According to the same information, the regional secretary of Economy, Tourism and Culture highlighted that Scandinavia and northern Europe “are among the priority markets (with strong growth potential and attractive value) and are diversification markets for the region’s tourism sector.”

The official added that recovering accessibility and operations in the Nordic markets is one of the strategic objectives of Madeira Tourism this year.

“With this new Play Airlines operation, along with other operations that take place throughout the year at Madeira Airport, such as those of Finnair to Helsinki and Norwegian to Oslo, or those that take place during the IATA winter, such as Braathens to Stockholm, Norwegian to Copenhagen and Sunclass Airlines to Helsinki and Copenhagen, We reinforce our commitment to these markets with great potential for the region.“says Eduardo Jesús quoted in the document released by his office.

The official highlights that the work carried out to attract more airlines and routes to Madeira “enormously benefits the regional tourism sector, but also residents in the region, who now benefit from increasingly direct connections.”
