Interpol’s counter-terrorism operation Neptune VI involved 14 countries, including Portugal, and resulted in the arrest of 66 people in connection with terrorism and human trafficking.

The operation, called Neptune VI, served to reinforce security along the Mediterranean maritime routes, also including airports and borders of the participating countries.
The operation had the cooperation of Frontex and Europol and, in addition to Portugal, took place in Albania, Algeria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Montenegro, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia.
“The operation focused on identifying and analyzing the movement patterns of foreign terrorist fighters and individuals with links to terrorism.as well as criminal groups responsible for cross-border crimes, such as drug trafficking, weapons smuggling and human trafficking,” Interpol says in a statement.
During the two-week operation, stolen vehicles and lost or stolen passports, essential to facilitate the financing and mobility of terrorists, were also identified, Interpol added.
At the end of Neptune VI, twelve million pieces of information had been crossed and 16 of the organization’s most wanted individuals had been arrested, as well as another 54 wanted by the authorities of some countries for crimes detected at the border, including related crimes. with drugs and fraud, as well as smuggling of gold, money and weapons.
