“Due to their sensational performance this year, they deserve to be and will be in the 2025 Club World Cup,” Infantino said at Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium, shortly after the home club defeated the New England Revolution 6-2.
The FIFA president also added that the Miami team will play the inaugural match of the new tournament format at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
The expanded FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled for the summer of 2025 and which will also include Benfica and FC Porto, had an open spot and corresponded to the invitation to a team from the United States as the organizing country.
FIFA chose Inter Miami after an exceptional season by Messi, who scored 20 goals and 16 assists in just 19 games, in addition to another 20 goals from Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez.
