Following pandemic restrictions, Macau reopened its borders to all foreigners, having recorded a year-on-year increase of 9.9%, with more than 2.5 million visitors in September.
Macau received more than 2.5 million visitors in September, an increase of 9.9% year-on-year, according to data published by authorities this Wednesday.
The arrival of 2,528,011 visitors to the territory represents “a recovery of 91.4% of the figure” observed in the same month of 2019, even before the covid-19 pandemic, stated the Directorate of Statistics and Census Services (DSEC).
After three years of strict restrictions due to the pandemic, the territory reopened its borders to all foreignersincluding tourists, since the beginning of last year.
In the month analyzed, the number of hikers (1,308,147) and tourists (1,219,864) increased, in annual terms, by 15.6% and 4.3%, respectively, DSEC reported in a statement.
Already Between January and September, the number of visitors to Macau amounted to 25,920,914, 30.1% more than in the same period in 2023..
The majority of visitors registered in the first nine months of the year came from within China: 18,217,413, or 36.3% more in annual terms, it added.
