European projects to develop “cutting-edge green technologies” receive 4.8 billion euros

The 85 selected projects will come into operation before 2030 and in the first ten years of operation “are expected to reduce emissions by around 476 million tons of CO2.”

The European Commission has selected 85 projects, including those in Portugal, for the development of “cutting-edge ecological technologies” in Europe, which will receive funding of 4.8 billion euros.

In a statement, the community executive announced that the value of the subsidies will be distributed among projects with zero carbon emissions.

The projects come from Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden and Norway.

“[Os projetos] cover a Wide variety of sectors in energy-intensive industries.renewable energy, energy storage, industrial carbon management, carbon-free mobility (including maritime and aviation) and buildings,” said Ursula von der Leyen executive.

The selected projects in these 18 Member States will come into operation before 2030 and in the first ten years of operation they are “expected to reduce emissions by around 476 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent”.

“This will contribute to the European decarbonisation targetsreducing emissions in these sectors, where it is especially difficult to decarbonize,” Brussels added.

The projects will focus, for example, on factories, with ecological instruments that reduce energy expenditure and emissions, renewable hydrogen, the reduction of emissions in road transport and fuels (535 tons of renewable fuels are expected per year ).

The winners of these grants will have to contract the objectives with the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment in the first quarter of 2025.
