Farmers in the North have already declared losses due to the fires worth 1.4 million euros

Farmers affected by the September fires in the Northern region declared, until this Wednesday, losses worth 1.4 million euros, according to the information available on the portal of the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N) .

According to a statistical portal created after the September fires, as of 2:00 p.m. this Wednesday, 369 farmers had declared total losses worth 1.39 million euros in applications accepted by the CCDR-N, and as the aid limit is six thousand euros, the value considered by the regional commission only reaches 1.06 million euros.

The amount of productive capital affected amounts to 1.36 million eurosthe value related to animal feeding being 204 thousand euros and the value related to the death of animals being quantified at 38 thousand euros.

According to applications already accepted by the CCDR-N, the municipality with the highest amount of declared loss was Cinfães (Viseu district) with 277.3 thousand euros, followed by Baião (Porto) with 166.3 thousand euros, Cabeceiras de Basto (Braga ) with 154.2 thousand euros, Vila Pouca de Aguiar (Vila Real) with 116.5 thousand euros and Marco de Canaveses (Oporto) with 103.8 thousand euros.

Cinfães also leads the number of applications in the North region, with 94, followed by Vila Pouca de Aguiar and Baião, with 48 each, Cabeceiras de Basto, with 41, and Marco de Canaveses, with 30.

According to the same CCDR-N portal, in total 3,203 farmers registered in quota plans will have been affected in the Northern regionwith a territory corresponding to 8,100 divided hectares.

The number of affected plots is 1,401, the number of declarations submitted since September 12 is 719 and the number of agricultural buildings affected is 236.

However, in total, 69,800 hectares burned in the region, of which 28,100 were scrublands, 17,000 eucalyptus forests, 7,200 maritime pine forests, 3,900 other oak forests and 3,000 other hardwood forests.

The burned surface, to a lesser extent, is completed by temporary rainfed and irrigated crops, sparse vegetation, agriculture with natural and semi-natural spaces, forests of other conifers and forests of invasive species.

In September, large fires in the northern and central regions of the country caused nine deaths, more than 170 injuries, and the destruction of dozens of homes.

According to the European Copernicus Earth observation system, between September 15 and 20 alone, around 135,000 hectares burned in mainland Portugal, of which more than 116,000 in the north and center, thus concentrating most of the burned surface. in the national territory.
