In the third quarter, Mozambique exceeded the goal of 200,000 new home connections to the electricity grid and moved forward with the first 40 kilometers of the high-tension line that will connect the north and south.
According to data from the budget execution of the third quarter in the Energy sector, regarding the expansion of electrical energy in the national territory, “202,213 home connections were established through the national electrical network, which corresponds to compliance with 101 % of the 200,000” of those three months (July to September).
The report adds that during this period the first 40 kilometers of “the backbone of the 400 KW high voltage electrical transmission system” were built, which “will connect the north with the south of the country, comprising Temane, Maputo, Chimuara – Alto Molócue, “corresponding to 100% achievement of the planned objective.”
“The transmission line is completed and commissioning for the connection is underway,” the document states.
On May 2, the President of Mozambique set the goal of completing the electrification of all administrative posts in the country by December and ensuring that 10 million Mozambicans have access to electricity for the first time.
Filipe Nyusi stated that, within the framework of the “Energy for All” program, the objective is “to allow all administrative posts to be electrified” between now and “the end of 2024”, after electrification “in the last century of all district headquarters” of the country.
“Our objective is that the coverage rate [da população do país] reach 64%, ensuring that 10 million Mozambicans have electricity for the first time,” highlighted the Head of State.
