Retail sales rise in April in the eurozone and the EU

Retail sales volume increased 3.9% in the Eurozone and 5.0% in the European Union (EU) in April, compared to the same month in 2021, according to data released this Friday by Eurostat.

According to the European Statistical Service, compared to March, retail sales fell by 1.3% in both areas.

Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest year-on-year increases in the indicator were recorded in Slovenia (29.6%), Poland (21.1%) and Malta (17.5%) and the largest decreases in Finland (-3.4%). %), Luxembourg (-2.9%) and Belgium (-1.9%).

In the variation of the chain, the main falls were registered in Slovenia (-7.7%), Germany (-5.4%) and Latvia (-3.9%), while the greatest increases were observed in Spain ( 5.3%), Luxembourg (3.7%). %) and Ireland (1.9%).

In Portugal, retail sales increasedin April, 5.0% in the interannual variation and decreased 3.0% compared to March.
