Angolan police detain five human trafficking suspects in Luanda

The Angolan police arrested five nationals accused of the crime of human trafficking, in the province of Luanda, the country’s capital, the institution’s spokesman reported Friday.

According to Nestor Goubel, the group is led by a woman and the police became aware of the case, through a complaint, stating that The suspects are said to have been involved in the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy last month.in the neighborhood of Prenda, municipality of Luanda.

“According to information, the mother of the minor participated in the case in a timely manner, and the Public Ministry issued the appropriate arrest warrants, whose criminal process follows its normal procedures in the SIC. [Serviço de Investigação Criminal]”, said the spokesman for the Luanda provincial police command.

During the investigation, the police learned that through an accomplice, the accused took the minor to the province of Zaire and tried to sell him for six million kwanzas (13,337 euros), the operation having been aborted due to police intervention.

According to Nestor Goubel, the crime is solved and the child delivered to the familyemphasizing that “the police are attentive” and praising the population’s culture of denunciation.

“The call is always in the sense of denouncing, that they pay attention to the signs, to the disappearance of the children and act as the mother of the girl who, at the time, proceeded to participate for the opening of the process and for everything later. this police work,” he said.

Regarding human trafficking, the director of the National Children’s Institute (INAC), Paulo Kalesi, told Lusa that have received a considerable number for the disappearance of minors.

“And every time we get an identical report that a child has allegedly been abducted, that a child has disappeared, our direct link is the police, who have to investigate,” he stressed.

Paulo Kalesi also explained that, in the last two years, 50 children suspected of trafficking were registered, all of whom were sent to the police for investigation.
