The situation resulting from the cost of living, the threats of war and the precariousness of work will be in focus, at the end of the week, in Luso, Mealhada, at the XVIII National Congress of the Liga Obrera Católica / Movimiento Obrero Cristiano ( LOC /MTC).
During the two days of work – Friday and Saturday – the participants will base themselves on the Guidelines document entitled “Dignify Work, Take Care of the Common Home”, which, according to the organization of the congress, “reflects the attentive and knowledgeable of those who live and feel the anguish and hope in these difficult times of war and cost of living, the devaluation and degradation of human laborin precarious jobs, insecurity, low wages and pensions, with levels of impoverishment that affect many workers despite having a job”.
On Friday, the work program includes a round table with the participation of Francisco Ferreira, president of ZERO, José João Rodrigues, from Casa do Sal da Figueira da Foz, and José Manuel Duarte, from LOC/MTC of the Diocese of Guarda, followed by a space for debate “in the sense of delving into common denominators, which help for greater citizen intervention in the spirit of the encyclical Laudato Sí“.
The LOC/MTC National Congress meets every three years, bringing together delegates from militant groups and various other members of this movement. In this congress, Américo Monteiro and Fátima Pinto are candidates for the National Coordination for the triennium 2022/2025.
LOC/MTC is affiliated with the European Movement of Christian Workers (MTCE).
