White House: Frustrated Americans should keep in mind that gas prices are even higher elsewhere

On Monday, the White House reminded Americans disillusioned with record high fuel prices that fuel prices abroad are even higher.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre answered questions about high gas prices at the daily briefing, noting that it’s “really important” for people to understand that prices are higher around the world.

He noted that gas prices in the European Union were $8.15 per gallon, $8.88 per gallon in Germany and $6.23 per gallon in Canada.

Noting that gas prices increased as a result of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the Minister said, “This is a global problem, something everyone in the world feels.”

US gas prices rose to a new record high for the ninth consecutive day on Monday.

Jean-Pierre acknowledged that high inflation, food and gas prices “harm families, especially when sitting at the kitchen table.”

He reiterated that “everything is on the table” to deal with high gas prices, but said he had no knowledge of the actions the president would take to help bring down gas prices.

“I don’t have to look,” he said.

Jean-Pierre insisted that the US Biden’s multi-trillion-dollar bailout put the American economy in a strong position to deal with difficult problems such as inflation.

“The president realized this moment … it really puts us in a position where we see a stronger economic situation today, where we can really afford inflation,” he said.
