Philip Baker Hall, actor of Magnolia and Seinfeld, dies

Actor Philip Baker Hall, who appeared in films by director Paul Thomas Anderson and in the television series “Seinfeld,” died Sunday at the age of 90 in California, his family announced today.

Holly Wolfle Hall, the actor’s wife of nearly 40 years, said Baker Hall died “surrounded by his dearest people in Glendale, California.

He also said that the actor was doing well until a few weeks ago, and spent his last days in a good mood, reflecting on his life.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Philip Baker Hall traveled extensively as an actor and appeared in movies and television series until director Paul Thomas Anderson, still unknown, invited him to participate in the film “Cigars & Coffee” in 1993.

He then ventured into “Hard Eight” (1997), which catapulted his career, also appearing in the feature films “Boogie Nights” and “Magnolia”, by the same filmmaker.

Hall is also known for being one of the most charismatic characters on the “Seinfield” series, like Joe Buckman.

Other credits include his performance as US President Richard Nixon in the Robert Altman drama “Secret Honor” (1984).

He also appeared on “The Truman Show,” “The Insider,” “Zodiac,” “Argo,” and “Rush Hour.”
