German government: We will take emergency measures to replace our gas supplies

The German government has announced that it will take emergency measures to secure its gas supplies in the face of reduced Russian gas volumes, explaining that “less gas should be used to generate electricity, and therefore coal-fired plants will have to use more.”

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pointed out that “his country will do everything possible to eliminate the technical reasons that led to the reduction in Russian gas supplies to Germany via the Nord Stream gas pipeline,” noting that “so far we are seeing a decrease in supplies to Germany and Western European countries. “Others that are justified by technical problems may be an accident, but we will avoid it.”

Schultz believed that “there was a political motive behind this position”, emphasizing that “the reduction in supplies to Germany was not due to technical reasons.”

On June 14, the Russian Gazprom announced that it had reduced the volume of gas pumped through the Nord Stream by 40 percent due to the lack of pumps serviced by the German company Siemens.
