Israel’s National Cybersecurity Authority has indicated that the cause of the sirens sounding in Jerusalem and Eilat yesterday was an Iranian cyberattack on the sirens system.

A statement released by the Israeli Army Home Front Command said: “The authorities have been ordered to take swift protective action against the whistle system and the whistles that sounded yesterday are a civilian system and not the whistles run by the Home Front Command.”

Warning sirens sounded in Jerusalem and Eilat yesterday around 7 pm. A few hours later, whistles sounded again in Jerusalem. A short time later, the Israeli army announced that “the sirens sounded due to a malfunction and that it did not fear a security event, while the home front command announced this morning that it was expecting a cyber attack, without mentioning the identity of the perpetrators. But the Ynet website reported that “Israel estimates that this cyberattack was carried out by Iranian hackers.”
