The government chose Celeste Hagatong to assume the presidency of the Board of Directors of Banco do Fomento and Ana Rodrigues de Sousa Carvalho to assume the position of CEO, according to a statement sent to Lusa.
In the note, the Minister of Economy and the Sea, António Costa Silva, indicated that Celeste Hagatong “has a long history in banking and insurance and experience in different sectors of activity, from Corporate Finance and Project Finance to corporate banking”, highlighting that “ his foresight, leadership and dynamism will be fundamental in making Banco Português de Fomento the promoter bank of the Portuguese State.
For her part, Ana Rodrigues de Sousa Carvalho “has multifaceted experience in banking and insurance, including commercial monitoring of companies and the area of venture capital, and her experience will be fundamental in bringing Banco Português de Fomento closer to companies and the Finance system “.
Also according to the official, the current director general of the Banco Português de Fomento, Beatriz Freitas, “will finish her term”, thanking the manager “for all her work, commitment and dedication at the head of the Banco Português de Fomento in the difficult period of the launch. of the Bank, which coincided with the pandemic.”
In turn, “the remaining members of the Executive Committee of the Banco Português de Fomento” –Tiago Simões de Almeida, Rui Dias and Susana Bernardo– “remain in office”, he stressed.
The minister also indicated that the election of the administrators will now be “subject to the suitability process of the Bank of Portugal and the evaluation process, as well as the intervention of the Audit Committee of the Banco Português de Fomento to, with scrupulous respect for the procedures in force, the appointment will be made at the General Meeting as soon as the conditions for it are created”.
