Thinking Outside the Box: what will Portugal have after the war?

Are we facing a new crisis? How high will inflation go? How to stop the rising cost of living? What will Portugal -and Europe- have after the conflict between Ukraine and Russia? These will be some of the topics that will be discussed at the next Outside Caixa Meeting, organized by Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, in Famalicão. The inauguration will be Paulo Moita de Macedo, President of the Executive Committee of CGD from 3:00 p.m. This is followed by a panel on “The State of the Nation: Education, Employment and Skills” in which paulo ferreraRádio Observador journalist and host of the event, will talk with Carlos Oliveiraco-founder and executive president of the Fundação José Neves.

Starting at 4:00 p.m., the Fora da Caixa Especial Radio Observador has the participation of Carlos Guimaraes Pintoeconomist and deputy for the Liberal Initiative; susana peraltaeconomist and university professor Carlos Oliveiraco-founder and executive president of the Fundação José Neves.

This Meeting Outside the Box ends with a section starring the musician Pedro Abrunhosa “In the beginning was… the territory”, which will have as a guest Luis Valente de Oliveiraformer minister of several Social Democratic governments, in particular, in the area of ​​Territorial Planning and Administration, his area of ​​specialization.

This cycle of meetings organized by Caixa Geral de Depósitos began in 2017. Over the years, 38 conferences were held in 36 cities, with the participation of 320 speakers, including Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, António Costa e Silva, António Lobo Xavier, Luis Marques Mendes, Paulo Portas, Miguel Sousa Tavares, and Jose Pacheco Pereira. 128 companies were also present, who had the opportunity to present their respective businesses.

In April 2019, the second cycle of Encontros Fora da Caixa began. In addition to the economic and territorial aspect, which characterized the first phase, it also brought a cultural and artistic dimension.

In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, two meetings were held, only in digital format, in a more intimate and reflective register, starring Pedro Abrunhosa’s conversations with Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça and the writer Gonçalo M. Tavares.

In 2021, with the reduction of the restriction measures, it was possible to hold five more meetings in Chaves, Porto, Portimão, Tomar and Barcelos. The differences of each place and the challenges faced by the business sector were once again on the agenda. This year, the Meetings have already passed through Porto; through the island of Pico, in the Azores and through Sines and now they return to the north of the country, where a large part of the business fabric is concentrated.
